What is heart rate?

Heart rate is the speed of beating. Heart rate is usally calculate in beats per minute.

 

How do you measure your heart rate?

You can measure your heart rate with the tip of your index finger and middle finger by touching the radial or carotid pulse and count till 60 seconds. You can also use a heart rate monitor to measure your heart rate. 

 

Why do you need to measure your heart rate?

Heart rate can give medical information. It can also tell us your fitness level. 

 

What is resting heart rate?

Resting heart rate is a heart rate measured when you are resting. Usually the most accurate way to do it is to measure it as soon as you get up because any type of movement will affect your resting heart rate.

 

What is a normal resting  heart rate?

A heart rate around 60-80 beats per minute is classified as normal. 

Athletes usually have 60 or lower beats per minute.

80 or above is high and should see the doctor immidietly 

 

What is maximum heart rate?

Maximum heart rate is 220 -(age) = maximum heart rate 

 

What are training zones?

Training zones are a level of intensity which an indivudual work in.

 

First Time Exerciser

Maximum heart rate x 0.50 to 0.65

 

Zone 1

Maximum heart rate x 0.65 to 0.75

 

Zone 2 

Maximum heart rate x 0.75 to 0.85

 

Zone 3

Maximum heart rate x 0.85 to 0.90

 

Fat burning zone 

Maximum heart rate x 0.60 to 0.80
